Borrowing Policy for WSU Undergraduate Students, Affiliated Physicians and Affiliated Hospital Staff

Requirements for Borrowing

Borrowers must be current students of Wright State University or staff at an Affiliated Hospital Library. Affiliated Hospitals include:

  • Children's Medical Center
  • Good Samaritan Hospital
  • Grandview Hospital
  • Kettering College of Medical Arts
  • Miami Valley Hospital
  • Veteran's Affairs Medical Center
  • Community Hospital (Springfield)
  • Dayton Mental Health Institute
  • Dettmer (Upper Valley Medical Center)
  • Green Memorial Hospital (Xenia)
  • Mercy Hospital Urbana (Springfield)
  • Piqua (Upper Valley Medical Center)
  • Wayne Hospital (Greeneville)
  • Wilson Memorial Hospital
  • WPAFB Hospital

A library card or staff ID from your home (hospital) library is required. The University Libraries will also issue a WSU library card if your home library is not a member of our online circulation system. Lost WSU library cards may be replaced for $5.00.

The University Libraries will accept a driver's license for identification if the information on the license can be verified by a current library record in our online circulation system.

A barcoded library card valid in the WSU online system is required to borrow materials in person from other OhioLINK libraries or other WSU affiliated libraries.

Limits

Borrowing is normally limited to a total of fifty (50) items, including up to five (5) audiovisual items. Exceptions may be authorized by the Head of Information Delivery Services. Borrowers may also place requests on up to 50 items including 25 OhioLINK items.

Loan Periods

  • Circulating books may be borrowed for twenty-eight (28) days unless recalled for course reserves.
  • Audiovisual materials are due in fourteen (14) days.
  • OhioLINK books are due in 21 days.
  • OhioLINK audiovisuals are due in 7 days.
  • Most reserve materials have hourly loan periods.

Renewing and Account Information

  • Most materials (if less than 14 days overdue) may be renewed two (2) times before they must be returned to the library to be checked in, but the item may then be immediately checked out again if there are no outstanding requests.
  • OhioLINK books may be renewed up to four (4) times if not needed at the owning institution.
  • Most audiovisual materials may be renewed one time if not needed by another user.
  • Account information including online renewals, books checked out, requested items and fines owed are available through the Libraries' website: http://www.libraries.wright.edu

Returning

Books may be returned to any university library or affiliated hospital library location. Although an outside book drop is available at the Dunbar and Fordham Libraries, non-book materials should be returned at the appropriate circulation desk.

You may also request a receipt when paying a fine. Not only does this verify what has been paid, but it provides a brief bibliography for future reference.

Fines

Fines for books, audiovisual materials, reserve materials, and OhioLINK materials are outlined below:

Overdue Notices

Most notices are sent by email. The address of your WSU campus email account is automatically used. If you prefer to receive mail at another address, you can forward your mail from your campus e-mail account. Contact Computing and Telecommunications Services at (937) 775-4827 for directions. The types of overdue notices and intervals are outlined below.

  1. FIRST NOTICE: This notice is produced automatically on the first day the material is overdue to remind you to renew or return it as soon as possible. Renew online at http://www.libraries.wright.edu.
  2. SECOND NOTICE: This notice is produced automatically and your borrowing privileges temporarily suspended on the fourteenth day overdue. The notice advises that fines of $.20/day, retroactive to the first day overdue begin on the twenty-first day overdue. Renewals must be made by email or phone because your library account is blocked.
  3. THIRD NOTICE: This notice is produced automatically on the twenty-first day overdue. Your borrowing privileges remain temporarily suspended. The notice advises that fines of $4.40 ($.20/day retroactive to the first day overdue) plus $.20/day begin tomorrow. Renewals must be made by email or phone because your library account is blocked.
  4. FOURTH NOTICE: This notice is produced automatically on the thirty-fifth day overdue. Your borrowing privileges remain temporarily suspended. The notice advises that fines continue to accumulate at $.20/day, but will increase to $1.00/day on the fifty-first day overdue. Renewals must be made by email or phone because your library account is blocked.
  5. FIFTH NOTICE: This notice is produced automatically on the fiftieth day overdue. Your borrowing privileges remain temporarily suspended. The notice advises that fines now total $10.00 and will increase to $1.00/day tomorrow. You will be billed for replacement costs on the sixty-fifth day overdue. Renewals must be made by email or phone because your library account is blocked.
  6. SIXTH NOTICE: This notice is produced automatically on the sixty-fifth day overdue. The notice advises that fines now total $25.00 and that student registration and transcript holds will be blocked today. The library attaches a form letter explaining how to remove registration and transcript blocks. Renewals must be made by email or phone because your library account is blocked.
  7. COLLECTION AGENCY: Referrals to a collection agency may be made for accounts with materials more than 70 days overdue or fees more than $500.00.

Lost Books

The minimum replacement cost for WSU books is $75.00 plus a $25.00 processing fee, plus fines, if any. Actual replacement cost may apply if higher. OhioLINK replacement fees are $75.00 plus a $35.00 non-refundable processing fee plus fines, if any. If the item is returned after the replacement costs and processing fees have been charged, the borrower may receive some reduction of these charges.
