Holiday Treasures from the DAI
5:30-7:00 pm Dec. 2, 2009 Dunbar Library Fourth Floor

WSU Friends of the Libraries and the Barnes & Noble University Bookstore present Janice Driesbach, Director for the Dayton Art Institute , discussing "Hello!World - Holiday Treasures at the DAI" 5:30-7:00 pm Wednesday, Dec. 2, at the WSU Paul Laurence Dunbar Library, fourth floor. Free and open to the public. Free and convenient parking available next to the building.

Janice Driesbach is the newest director of the renowned Dayton Art Institute. She and the DAI staff drew rarely-seen treasures out of hiding from stored collections just in time for holiday outings. Learn insider info about unique works from many periods and places, some of which have not been on display for years or are new to the DAI. Also learn about DAI goals and future exhibits. This lecture will feature special items and door prizes for members of the Friends of the Libraries, including people purchasing new or gift memberships.

The talk begins promptly at 5:45 pm, followed by a reception. Registration requested by Nov. 30.

Lest We Forget Collection Reception

Wright State University Libraries’Special Collections & Archives invite you to the public opening of the documentary research collection for "Lest We Forget: Silent Voices" 5:00-7:30 pm Wednesday, Dec. 9, in the WSU Paul Laurence Dunbar Library, fourth floor.

Viewing of the "Lest We Forget" documentary begins promptly at 5:30 pm. Following the film will be a reception, exhibits, and tours of the collection.

The award-winning Mark R. Lyons documentary produced by Partners for Community Living features first-person stories of people with developmental disabilities and the life-long impact of institutionalization on themselves, their families, and their communities.

Free and open to the public. Free and convenient parking located next to the building. Registration requested by December 7 to ensure seating.

Refworks

Need help keeping your references organized? Looking for an easier way to create bibliographies and footnotes? Try RefWorks, a web-based citation management program. With RefWorks, users can create a personal database of resources and keep them easily organized. RefWorks is available to all Wright State University faculty, staff, and students.

Basic Intellectual Property

Designed for the beginning inventor/entrepreneur, the workshop offers basic intellectual propery information and search techniques for using the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) web site and databases.

Literature from the USPTO will also be distributed during the workshop.

Basic Trademark Research

Designed for those with little to no knowledge about intellectual property marks, the workshop will review trademark basics, including the difference between federal, state and common law marks.

The mechanics of searching will be demonstrated using the USPTO web site and the USPTO trademark database TESS.

Records Management 101

These training sessions are designed specifically for WSU staff and will cover all the major aspects of the University Records Management Program and the benefits it provides for WSU offices. Topics include:

  • Program background and administration
  • Retention scheduling
  • Records disposal
  • Filing systems
  • Electronic records
  • University Archives
