Open Access Week and CORE Scholar

The 7th annual Open Access Week (October 21-27) is dedicated to highlighting the potential for Open Access to change the landscape of scholarly publishing.

Open Access of information is forever changing the way intellectual output is published, disseminated, used, and reused. OA unburdens the author, library, and reader of the often high publication and usage costs and guarantees the information will be free and immediately accessible for users around the world. It has the potential to completely transform the way research and scientific inquiry are performed. In short, the implications of providing Open Access to information are widespread and world-changing.

The Wright State University Libraries are directly involved with providing Open Access to the intellectual output of the University by offering CORE ScholarCORE Scholar, Wright State’s own Institutional Repository, facilitates WSU researchers the opportunity to publish their work in a professional database that allows worldwide users the chance to access free of restrictions.

CORE Scholar publishing provides professional publishing services, and has the capability to publish a plethora of formats including:

  • Online Journals
  • eBooks
  • Monographs
  • Event Management/Conference Papers & Proceedings
  • Scholarly Articles

CORE Scholar also provides faculty with scholarship pages which include usage statistics, RSS feeds, and subscriber tracking, allowing faculty the ability to monitor the impact factors of their work.

Open Access provided through Wright State’s CORE Scholar has the potential to maximize research investments, increase exposure and use of Wright State University published research, facilitate the ability to conduct research across available literature, and enhance the overall advancement of scholarship. Open Access Week is a key opportunity for all members of the OA community to increase enthusiasm for this important movement.
