Please join us this coming Monday, April 1, 2013, for the next meeting of the Huffman Prairie Aviation Historical Society, when Susan Richardson will give a presentation entitled “The Physiological Support of the U-2/SR-71 High Altitude Reconnaissance Aircraft” (view announcement flyer PDF).
Susan Richardson served 26 years as an US Air Force Aerospace Physiologist, training aircrew members in the physiological hazards of flight, protective equipment, and emergency procedures. Assigned to Beale AFB, CA for four years, she edited and published Strategic Air Command Pamphlet 161-1, “The Full Pressure Suit.” As Aerospace Physiologist, Susan had the opportunity to fly in 22 different military aircraft, including the U-2 above 70,000 ft. and NASA’s Zero-G KC-135.
Susan is enrolled in the Wright State University Public History Program. In June 2012, she completed her capstone project at Beale AFB, CA, putting up an exhibit on the history of physiological support of the U-2 and SR-71 high altitude reconnaissance aircraft.
The meeting and presentation will take place at 7:30 p.m. at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center at 2380 Memorial Road (intersection of State Route 444 and Kauffman Road), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. There is ample free parking, and light refreshments will be provided.
