John Patterson – Quartermaster

On June 28, 1864, John H. Patterson wrote a short note to his mother from Fort Marshall, Baltimore, MD.  In the letter he briefly describes his duties as a clerk in the Quartermaster Department.  He likes the work and believes he will have quite a bit to do.  His primary job is writing.  He concludes by noting that he will generally have the afternoon and evenings to himself.  (Transcript of John H. Patterson letter, June 28, 1864)
