Sherman’s “March to the Sea”

On November 15, 1864, Robert Patterson and the 61st OVI,  departed Atlanta on Sherman’s “March to the Sea.”  As Robert anticipated (see November 7, 2014 blog post), there was not much opposition to the Union army as they moved toward Savannah.  The 61st had but one skirmish with the enemy — at Sandersonville, Georgia.  The “March to the Sea” was completed on December 10, 1864, when General Sherman’s army arrived at Savannah, Georgia.
