Karen Calhoun
Vice President, OCLC Worldcat and Metadata Services
Karen Calhoun joined OCLC as Vice President, OCLC WorldCat and Metadata Services, in May 2007. In this role, Ms. Calhoun is charged with charting a course for the future of cataloging and metadata services and extending WorldCat’s global reach. Ms. Calhoun also worked for OCLC from 1986 through 1996, serving in the OCLC Library Resources Management Division. From 1996 to April 2007, Ms. Calhoun served in leadership positions at Cornell University Library, most recently as Senior Associate University Librarian for Information Technology and Technical Services. Recently Ms. Calhoun, who is active professionally in research and as a speaker, was principal investigator for The Changing Nature of the Catalog and its Integration with Other Discovery Tools, a Library of Congress-commissioned study that proposed new directions for the library catalog in the digital era. She holds a bachelor's degree from Bucknell University, an M.S. in library and information science from Drexel University, and an M.B.A. from Franklin University.
Dr. William J. King
Dr. William J. King is Associate Professor Emeritus in the Department of Classics at Wright State University. He holds a BA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, 1960; a Ph.D UNC, Chapel Hill, 1970, with a specialty in Latin literature. Dr. King joined the faculty at Wright State in 1964. He is one of the "Founding Faculty," and he believes he was the last of the founders in active service, retiring in 2004. He is currently enjoying frequent and comfortable periods of study and research at the library with its attentive staff.
Thomas Mann
Reference Librarian, Library of Congress
Thomas Mann has been a general Reference Librarian in the Main Reading Room of the Library of Congress for twenty-six years. Prior to that he worked at the Mullen Library of The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, and at the Middleton Library of Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. He received his Ph.D. from Loyola University of Chicago and his M.L.S. from Louisiana State U. A former private investigator, he is the author of all three editions of The Oxford Guide to Library Research (Oxford University Press), of which the most recent edition was published in November of 2005. He is also the author of Library Research Models (Oxford, 1993) and various articles in library journals. Much of his recent writing appears on the website of the professional Union at the Library of Congress, www.guild2910.org. He lives in Washington, DC.
