How to Find Book Reviews

These four databases contain book reviews or book review citations for books on a variety of topics. For more subject-specific reviews, see the Databases by Subject page.

Book review citations for both scholarly and popular books. Click the button to see if we have the book reviews in print or online.


Academic Search Complete

Some full-text reviews from a variety of sources (scholarly journals, magazines, newspapers).
1. Select the Advanced Search from the default search screen:

2. Type your book title and your author's name (if known) in different search boxes at the top of the page:
3. Select Book Review from the Document Type list located at the left bottom of the search page:

LexisNexis Academic

Full-text book reviews from newspapers and magazines, including the New York Times. Limit your search to just reviews by following the directions below:
1.Click on the News button from the first screen:
2.From the News screen, type in your book title or author in the search box and then select the Book, Movie, Music, Play, and Video Reviews option:
3.You can choose which publications you want to search or just leave it to search all of them. Choose the date range that is best for you.

JSTOR

Full-text reviews from scholarly journals--some going back as far as the late 19th century--in many different subject areas.
1.Click on Advanced Search from the default screen:
2. Put a check mark in the Review box:
3. Type your book title or a combination of keywords from the book title and your author's name in the search box at the top of the page.
