Ingram’s new service manages complete life cycle of print books

I received this news release from Ingram this morning about their new service, Life PrintSM.  This service will manage the distribution of a print title, using one electronic file and order process.  It merges print on demand with outside book printing companies.  It sounds really interesting to me.  I’ll be anxious to see how it progresses. Here’s the press release:

Ingram Expands Publisher Manufacturing Services with Life PrintSM Program – Full-service program centralizes title management and integrates flexible costs with service levels

NASHVILLE, TN – Ingram Content Group Inc., today announced the launch of its Life PrintSM program, a comprehensive solution for publishers to manage the complete life cycle of print books.

“At Ingram, we are committed to offering publishers innovative solutions for manufacturing and distributing content,” said Larry Brewster, Senior Vice President, Strategy and Development, Ingram Content Group. “We created the Life Print program to simplify the manufacturing and distribution process, offering a one-stop, cost-effective source for managing all titles in one place.”

Ingram’s Life Print program gives publishers the flexibility to manage all frontlist, backlist and long tail titles from one source, using one file and one order process. Publishers can manufacture books in any quantity, from a single copy to a high-volume print run, regardless of where a book is in its life cycle.

The program integrates print on demand with Ingram’s high-volume, offset book printing affiliates to provide a seamless solution with a simple pricing structure. Publishers have the option to select expedited or standard service levels to quickly adjust to changes in demand.

The choices available through Ingram’s Life Print program broaden the scope of Ingram’s print service options for publishers. The Life Print program is available for most books and trim sizes and includes both black-and-white and color book types.
