Just received an email from Valerie Yaw at JSTOR with great news for libraries using GOBI. You can now purchase JSTOR ebooks through GOBI. Valerie said that both a single-user model and unlimited-user model (available for 60% of titles) are available through GOBI. The unlimited-user model offers unlimited simultaneous use, unlimited DRM-free chapter downloads, and unlimited printing and copy/paste. Libraries will need to sign JSTOR’s participation agreement for Books, available on their website here: http://about.jstor.org/agreements-riders. They offer tiered savings to libraries, and once they have an agreement on file, the library will see pricing in GOBI that reflects their savings level. Continue reading

OverDrive announced today that eBooks from more than 20,000 schools and libraries in its U.S. network are available to be used with Amazon’s Kindle FreeTime. OverDrive is the only supplier of eBooks to schools and libraries with support for Kindle devices. This enables kids and parents to access thousands of Kindle format eBooks from the library and read them within the FreeTime feature using the same parental controls and educational goal-setting that FreeTime offers for other activities. DUBLIN, Ohio, April 16, 2014—OCLC is working with Ingram, one of the world’s largest distributors of physical and digital content, to set and maintain holdings for e-books in WorldCat automatically, saving library staff valuable time and effort.
This new program enables libraries with an OCLC cataloging subscription and an account with MyiLibrary®, Ingram’s online e-content platform for libraries, to request integration of their MyiLibrary e-book holdings information with the WorldCat knowledge base. Great ebook discovery news for users of Summon. Now both ebrary and EBL full text content are indexed in the Summon. I’m amazed at the use stats on my ebook collections that are indexed in discovery tools. This should be a big boost for EBL title use. More below from the press release.
May 6, 2014 (ANN ARBOR, Mich.) — ProQuest is boosting the visibility of ebooks in library collections by indexing the full text of the entire catalog of EBL – Ebook Library in its Summon® discovery service. EBL’s expansive catalog of more than 400,000 ebooks is now even more discoverable alongside titles from ebrary, which have been full-text indexed in the Summon service since 2012.
