EBSCO now offering the eBook Public Library Collection

EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) has released the eBook Public Library Collection   which includes over 25,000 general reference e-book titles in a variety of subjects and topics including social sciences, language and literature and science & technology.

According to the press release:

The collection will provide libraries with a substantial selection in the areas of self-help, health and fitness, games, crafts and hobbies, medical, cooking and religion. In addition to the larger concentrations listed, above, eBook Public Library Collection also features recreation and leisure, geography, commerce, finance, the family, marriage, women, folklore, social and public welfare, and home economics.

eBook Public Library Collection is offered as an annual subscription and includes unlimited simultaneous access for users, and titles are continually added at no additional cost. Each title is offered with unlimited users allowing more users access to each title in the collection. eBook Public Library Collection also offers unlimited downloads to a variety of devices.

EBSCO releases new K-8 and High School eBook Collections aligned with Common Core

EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) continues its growth of e-book products with two new grade appropriate e-book subscription collections for the school market. eBook K-8 Collection™ and eBook High School Collection™ are available for schools looking to find full-text e-books specifically catered to their needs. The collections align with Common Core guidelines for Grades K-8 and Grades 9-12 in English Language Arts and Literacy, History/Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects.

K-8 Collection contains nearly 4,800 titles and eBook High School Collection includes nearly 5,100 titles with new titles added to each collection quarterly. Each collection includes content that spans all academic subjects and incorporates selections of classic literary works, important historical documents and general reference material appropriate for their grade levels. EBSCO’s “Super” LIS Database

EBSCO Publishing has just announced the release of Library & Information Science Source (LISS), one of several new “super” databases that merge EBSCO’s existing LIS content with H.W. Wilson’s.

Developed “by librarians for librarians” and designed to “help researchers find the latest information in a rapidly evolving field,” LISS covers librarianship from every angle imaginable and offers full text for over 430 journals and 30 monographs. It also includes thesauri with nearly 11,000 terms and indexing for hundreds of journals, books, research reports, proceedings, and even library school theses.  According to a press release from EBSCO, this is the first time the entire Wilson indexing collection of LIS literature is available within a single database. Apabi’s simplified Chinese eBooks now indexed in EBSCO Discovery Service

IPSWICH, Mass. — July 31, 2012 —EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and Apabi have come to an agreement allowing metadata from Apabi’s e-book collection to be added to the Base Index of EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS). The e-books from Apabi are designed to offer a vast collection in a variety of subject areas to researchers in higher education, public libraries, corporations and government.

Apabi’s extensive and growing collection includes over 700,000 Simplified Chinese e-books, with coverage beginning as early as 1949. Over 120,000 e-books are being added to the collection each year. The majority of Apabi’s e-books, more than 400,000, are published from 2004 to the present. Subject matter within the e-book collection represents an expansive range of subject areas including humanities, literature, science & technology and economics. Continue reading

Order your EBSCO eBooks via GOBI3

IPSWICH, Mass. — August 2, 2012 —Librarians accustomed to selecting and managing their eBook collections through GOBI3 from YBP Library Services (YBP), the academic division of Baker & Taylor, now have additional access options for the more than 320,000 eBook titles from eBooks on EBSCOhost®. EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) and YBP have expanded the EBSCO eBook models that are available in YBP’s acquisition and collection development interface.

EBSCO Publishing Senior Director of eBook Products, Ken Breen, says working with YBP to make EBSCO’s eBook content available via multi-user and Demand-Driven Acquisitions (DDA) options through GOBI3 is part of EBSCO’s commitment to provide more choice to librarians and their patrons. “We know having top content available without any fees or markups is important to our library customers. AP Images Collection will migrate to EBSCO databases

IPSWICH, Mass. — May 31, 2012 —EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) will make millions of images from the Associated Press (AP) available to library customers. EBSCO has been named the sole library distributor of the AP Images, the commercial photo unit of AP. It is one of the world’s largest collections of historical and contemporary imagery including more than twelve million photographs dating back more than 100 years. Continue reading

EBSCO releases nine new audiobook collections

EBSCO releases e-book subscription collection for corporations

 

An EBSCO press release received today discusses a new eBook subscription collection for corporations.  Interestingly, ProQuest just announced a research service, Udini, for individuals (appeared to be focused on articles and news sources, not ebooks). Here’s the complete EBSCO press release:

New EBSCOhost Collection Manager released

ECM can also help libraries create and manage lists of titles they want to expose to patron drive acquisition (PDA), manage deposits and determine which ownership models to apply to the various e-books and audiobooks in their collection.
