Michigan and Kentucky University Presses Using Ingram’s CoreSource

Wow, University Presses are in the news this week.  This is the 5th press release I’ve gotten!

Ingram Content Group Inc., announced agreements with two notable university presses for e-content management. The University of Michigan Press and The University Press of Kentucky have selected Ingram’s digital asset management platform, CoreSource®, to archive and distribute materials to partners worldwide.

The University of Michigan Press, part of the University of Michigan Library, was founded 80 years ago and is a primary publishing unit of the University today.  The Press publishes materials in a wide range of humanities and social science disciplines. It recently launched its innovative University of Michigan Digital Humanities Series, which advances understanding of the dynamic relationships between humanities and digital technologies. The Press has a mission of using the best technology to disseminate the information it publishes as freely and widely as possible, while preserving the integrity of published scholarship.  To further its mission, the Press selected Ingram’s CoreSource® platform for digital file management and distribution of both frontlist and backlist titles.    Continue reading

Macmillan to use Ingram’s print-on-demand service

Ingram Content Group Inc. and Macmillan today announced a new distribution services model that will integrate Ingram’s print on demand (POD) and fulfillment capability with Macmillan’s publishing program.  Macmillan will use Ingram’s print on demand and physical distribution infrastructure to manage traditional inventory and POD for “”long tail” titles.  Macmillan will continue to fully service its customer relationships from its primary warehouse in Virginia. Ingram’s Lightning Source enhances features

Ingram Content Group’s Lightning Source POD has introduced several new features including: new color interior hardcover book options, additional trim sizes for black and white interior books, expanded page count options for both perfect bound and hardcover books and a multi-volume set option, commonly used in the academic sector.  Continue reading

Tools of Change – Making the Case for Digital Printing

This session was directed to publishers who are thinking about digital printing opportunities.  The speakers were obviously pro-digital printing and provided many examples of the benefits of digital printing for publishers.  But, libraries should take note.  Digital printing could be a good source of revenue for libraries who have large digital collections.  I particular like the idea of “chunking”  and creating keepsake books from public domain material (discussed below).  Consortia could purchase a POD machine and member libraries could use this for a variety of projects, just think of the number of digital collections in one consortia.  What great revenue!  The speakers discussed 3 overlapping segments in digital printing- digital printing vendors, onsite services, and author services

Digital printing is more than print on demand (POD).  POD is a strategy in digital printing.

Ingram launches PubLink

Ingram announced today the launch of PubLink.  PubLINK is a web based tool for publishers to manage customer and media contact information and send galley copies and catalogs.  PubLink was beta tested by Macmillan.   Charles Bozian, VP of Finance and Administration for Macmillan said, “We could not be more impressed with Ingram’s PubLink,  the PubLink platform is a comprehensive solution for Macmillan’s galley needs, giving us the flexibility we need to serve our customers and media partners while enabling the transition from print to digital, seamlessly.  We see big benefits from an operational and cost standpoint over time.  This is where trade marketing is going.”
