ProQuest to Digitize 30,000 rare early books from National Library of the Netherlands

January 11, 2011 (ANN ARBOR, Mich.) – ProQuest will digitize more than 30,000 rare early books from the Koninklijke Bibliotheek (KB), the National Library of the Netherlands, capturing every volume in high-resolution color scans. This is the third major European national library to participate in ProQuest’s Early European Books project after the Danish Royal Library, Copenhagen and the Biblioteca Nazionale Centrale di Firenze in Italy. Proquest Acquires ebrary

January 6, 2011 (Ann Arbor, Mich.) – As its content-unifying new search platform rolls out to libraries around the world, ProQuest has acquired acclaimed e-book pioneer ebrary, setting the stage for significant acceleration of the process of serious research.  The agreement will marry both companies’ inventive, user-centric technologies and add a growing pool of a quarter-million e-books to ProQuest’s monumental content offerings.  The combined collection will enable users to search seamlessly across multiple formats – books, journals, dissertations, newspapers, video, and more – and across eight centuries of the world’s knowledge. IGI Global offers array of eBooks, databases, and forthcoming library science series

I knew upon seeing the mailing address of IGI Global – Chocolate Ave. in Hershey, PA, that I would like them.  But, upon leaving the NY offices I was presented with a box of chocolates, and I liked them even more.  What I didn’t know but soon came to discover, was the enormous amount of eBooks, journals, and databases they have produced since their founding in 1988.

PubFactory

During the TOC Conference I got a demo of iFactory’s new platform, PubFactory from Tom Beyer, Director of Publishing at iFactory.

PubFactory is an online publishing platform for publishers or libraries that is xml based, and supports ePub, DocBook, TEI, and NLM Journal formats.  They also support ONIX and RDF for metadata and PDF (metadata and full text searching/viewing).  Continue reading

All ebrary products now integrate with RefWorks and EndNote for easy citation management. End-users may choose to enable RefWorks, EndNote, or both.
