Gale adds four new STEM publishers to GVRL

Farmington Hills, Mich., October 8, 2014 — New content covering popular healthcare and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) topics is now available on Gale Virtual Reference Library (GVRL), the e-book platform offered by Gale, part of Cengage Learning. The signing of publishers Taylor & Francis, Mitchell Lane, HCPro and World Scientific combined will add approximately 750 e-books to GVRL, bringing the total number of available titles on the platform to 15,000 from over 150 publishing partners. More Content Added to WorldCat Local

From an OCLC Press Release:  In addition to the 200 million records contributed by OCLC member libraries worldwide, 500 million items from leading publishers, aggregators and mass digitization efforts are also now accessible through WorldCat Local.

OCLC has recently added content to WorldCat Local from EBSCO; Gale, part of Cengage Learning; Modern Language Association; ProQuest and the U.S. Department of Energy. There are now more than 400 million articles, 170 million books, 10 million eBooks and 1,100 databases accessible through the WorldCat Local service.

Additional agreements have been signed with ABC-CLIO, American Psychological Association, Association for Computing Machinery, BioMed Central, BioOne, Cambridge University Press, Emerald, IGI Global, Sabinet, Sage, Taylor & Francis and World Bank Publications. Continue reading

ebrary’s PDA Model is Finally Live

ebrary announced today the launch of the much awaited patron driven acquisition model.  It’s been a couple of years in the making, received considerable testing, and was grown from librarian demand and suggestions.  A brief history:

ALAMW Conference, 2009.  ebrary hosted a session to discuss patron driven acquisitions and many librarians were there to offer suggestions.

January, 2010, the PDA pilot testing is extended while ebrary conducts additional surveys.
