Deposit with Proquest/UMI
As part of the ETD submission process, you can authorize OhioLINK to release your ETD to Proquest for inclusion in their publications Dissertation Abstracts International or Masters Abstracts International and other dissertation and thesis related products. The School of Graduate Studies requires that all doctoral dissertations be deposited with Proquest/UMI; deposit of masters theses is optional, but recommended.
Copyright Registration:
Under current law, your ETD automatically has copyright protection whether or not you choose to register your copyright with the United States Copyright Office. Your copyright must, however, be registered before you can file a claim for infringement against another party.
You may register your copyright yourself (see http://copyright.gov for more information) or you may authorize Proquest/UMI to register it on your behalf as part of the submission process. If you elect to let Proquest register the copyright on your behalf, you must pay the registration fee (currently $65.00) to the School of Graduate Studies.
Paper Copies of Your Thesis or Dissertation:
The University Libraries will no longer require a hard (paper) copy of your thesis. Instead, the Libraries will catalog and provide access to the electronic document in the ETD.
The School of Graduate Studies requires that you submit two paper copies of the signed approval form only. Your department or program may still require paper copies; check with your thesis director for any departmental requirements.
Binding Paper Copies:
The University Libraries no longer binds copies of theses for departments or individuals.
If you want bound copies of your thesis, you can now work directly with the Libraries’ bindery, Heckman, through their “Thesis on Demand” service. This service allows you to submit your electronic file directly to Heckman for binding. More information on the service is available on their website .
