Where should I look for background information?

For most subjects, there are specialized subject encyclopedias and dictionaries. [EXAMPLES] For an area you have little familiarity with, you may want to consult a general encyclopedia to get a broad overview of the field. See what your textbook has to say about your topic. Journals in the subject may publish review articles, which survey other published articles on a particular topic.
