How do I cite my sources?

In order to cite the sources you have used, whether you have a book, journal article, web site or any other type of material, you need to answer a few questions.

What citation style am I required to use?

Your instructor may require you to use one of the following specific styles when citing your resources. Check with him/her if you aren't sure which style to follow.

  • Citing Online (all styles) - The Columbia Guide to Online Style, Janice Walker and Todd Taylor (Dunbar Info Desk PN171.F56 W35 1998).

  • Medical (American Medical Association) - American Medical Association Manual of Style : A Guide for Authors and Editors, 9th edition, (Fordham HSL Reference WZ 345 A511 1997).

  • MLA (Modern Language Association) - MLA Handbook for Writers of Research Papers (for high school and undergraduate college students), 5th edition (Dunbar Info Desk LB2369.G53 1999) or MLA Style Manual and Guide to Scholarly Publishing (for graduate students, scholars and professional writers), 2nd edition (Dunbar Info Desk PN147.G444 1998).
