First flight of the Wright Brothers

How do I plan a research strategy?

  1. Establish a good foundation
  2. Choose appropriate resources
  3. Evaluate your sources
  4. Put your thoughts together

Evaluate your sources

You will need to ask questions about each of the sources you have chosen.

  • Question the source's suitability
Are you using the source because it matches your topic or because it was easy to find? A few well chosen sources will build a stronger project than many loosely related sources.

  • Question the source's credibility
Does the author of the source know what he/she is talking about. Is the author respected in his/her field? Use well respected, prominent scholarship. Logical application of their works will lend credibility to your own conclusions.

  • Question the source's origin
Was the source recorded in a respected journal or produced by a reputable publisher? Librarians and faculty can help determine the publisher's reputation.
