Where can I get more help with researching my topic?

Where can I go to talk to somebody about my topic?

  • Term Paper Research Clinics: If you have a topic, but you're not sure where to begin your research, come to a Term Paper Research Clinic. Meet one-on-one with a librarian to map out a research strategy for your term paper or other research assignment. Appointments are free of charge. Ask at the Dunbar Information Desk or call (937) 775-2925 for details.

  • Your Librarian: If your research questions are connected to a specific academic subject area, consult a librarian who specializes in that subject area. If you're not sure what research databases to use, the subject librarian can direct you to the best resources for your task. If you have questions about how to use a particular resource effectively, the librarian can suggest searching strategies for both print and electronic resources. You may speak to a librarian by phone or e-mail, or you can set up an individual appointment.

Contact the librarian for your subject area.

  • Your Instructor: Your instructor can clarify the requirements of your assignment and the goals of the course. Your instructor may have put a syllabus and other class materials on a webpage or on electronic course reserves at the University Libraries.

Contact your instructor by email, phone, during office hours or through a course webpage via Wright State's Directory Services.

Access course materials electronically through Course Reserves on the Libraries' web site.

  • Information Desk and Reference area staff: Information and Reference Staff are available to work with you one-on-one at any stage in your project. They can help you to choose resources and make them work. If you have questions about library services, they can help. You can contact them in person, by phone, or through an online questionnaire. Each of the libraries at Wright State have their own Information and Reference staff, and their telephone numbers and hours of service vary.

  • Tutoring Groups or Study Circles: In some departments there may be a club or group that will provide tutoring. Where available, this support is often organized and/or provided by other students. Contact the department for details.

  • Tutoring Services: Tutoring Services is a WSU University office that provides individual tutoring for a number of courses. Wright State students may receive one hour of free tutoring per course per week.

    Contact Tutoring Services at 937-775-2280

  • Writing Center: Writing tutors are available to work with you one-on-one at any stage in your project. The tutors are other Wright State students who write well and know how to help you to write well too. If you're having trouble thinking of something to write about, these peer writing tutors can help you generate ideas. If you aren't sure how to organize your ideas, they can help you do that. And if you have questions about grammar or how to cite a resource, they can give you pointers.
