The League of Women Voters collection was presented to Wright State University Archives and Special Collections by Miss Jane Newberry. The approximate dates of this collection are 1956-1972. The property rights to the papers are held by Wright S tate Universtiy.

Scope and Content Note

The LWV collection was donated by Jane Newberry who is a member of the League of Women Voters. This collection is composed of various issues of the organization’s newsletters and an assortment of reports, papers, surveys, etc. of a wide range of subjects.

The newsletters are divided into three groups: The National Voter, The Ohio voter and The Dayton Voter. These issues, which run from 1956-1972, contain information on the activities of the League on local, state, and national levels of the organization. They also contain articles on various topics, especially political, and information concerning the purpose of the League.

The second part of this collection is made up of information that Miss Newberry accumulated over the years on such topics as: education, welfare, mental health, foreign policy, prison reform, housing, state spending and taxes, pollution and state and local government.

The LWV collection is organized into eleven boxes arranged by topics. The first box contains administrative records, i.e. constitution, by-laws, annual membership financial statements, etc. Boxes two and three contain various League bulletins and newsletters, while four and five possess material on state spending, state and local taxes, and the Ohio Finance Study. Local and county governments are the subjects contained in box six and seven. Boxes eight through ten contain a wide variety pf material on such subjects as welfare, prison reform, education, housing and civil rights. The last box, number eleven, contains materials on the public library and miscellaneous articles and publications.
