Introduction

The records of the International Printing & Graphics Communication Union Local 48 were donated to the Wright State University Archives on May 15, 1978 by Mr. Donald Ream, Secretary/Treasurer, IPGCW Local 48, 1911 Maryland Ave. , Springfield, Ohio 45505 as part of the Ohio Labor History Project. The material consists of minutes, correspondence, contract and wage scale information, and financial records This material falls between the dates of 1951 ‑ 1977. The entire collection fills 2 Hollinger boxes. There are no usage restrictions on the collection.

Agency Sketch

There is little background material available on the IPGCW Local 48. It was chartered on January 29, 1896, A prominent figure within the Local was Clarence Organ, secretary of the Local for fifty years from c. 1905-1955.

Scope and Content Note

Series I Administrative - This series consists of minutes dating from 1951 - 1977 and the reports of the secretary/treasurer during this same period. Information on contract agreements and wage scale material is contained in one folder. There are also some membership lists available.

Series II Business - Correspondence and material on Veteran training and Educational Services and pamphlets from the Technical Trade School correspondence course on newspaper presswork comprise this series.

Series III Financial - In this series are financial statements from the years 1963 - 1973 and a financial summary of the years 1956 - 1966.
