Biographical Sketch

Frederick N. Young was born on January 1, 1932. He graduated with honors from Wesleyan University, Middletown, Connecticut in 1954 with an A.B. degree in English and Theatre. He attended law school at Harvard University, graduating in 1957.

Representative Young returned to Dayton in 1957 and began practicing Corporate Law. He was immediately active in the local Republican Party serving as a precinct committeeman, and as a member of the Montgomery County Executive Committee. In 1960, he organized a highly successful rally for then candidate Richard Nixon. He was a delegate to the Republican State Convention in 1960 and 1962. Representative Young served as Assistant County Chairman for the Republican Party and was President of the Young Republicans Club in 1960-1961. In 1963, he was a delegate to the Young Republicans National Convention.

Representative Young was first elected to the Ohio General Assembly in 1968. He successfully ran for reelection in 1970, 1972 and 1974 (unopposed). The district he represented included the cities of Centerville, Kettering, parts of Moraine, and the Belmont area of Dayton. Oakwood was initially a part of the district until it was removed from the district by redistricting in 1970.

While serving in the Ohio General Assembly, Representative Young was active on many fronts, including education, court reorganization, the proposed regional jetport, and statewide funding for bikeways. He supported Governor Gilligan's (D) state income tax proposal in 1970 despite intense party pressure to do otherwise.

Representative Young retired from the House in 1976 and returned to corporate law practice in Dayton, Ohio.

Representative Young is married, wife Joyce, and has four children. He resides in Centerville, Ohio.
