MS-92 The Wallace Family PapersIntroductionThe Wallace Family Papers are an extensive collection of documents and photographs which provide the history of a farming family in Ohio over a period of more than one hundred and fifty years. The significance of this collection lies in the correspondence and diaries which encompass five generations of thought on birth, marriage, everyday life, family, religion, farming, politics, war, homesteading, travel, sickness and death. It is to the family's credit that such a remarkable amount of history has been recorded and preserved by so many generations, from the diary of a preacher in 1826 to the diary of a traveler in China in 1978. It would be a monumental task to condense the enormous amount of information on the Wallace and Kiblinger families found in this collection into a brief historical sketch. The collection itself contains a history of the Wallace family compiled by Mary Turpin Layton, 1946 (Box 14 File 13). Milly Wallace recorded a history of the Kiblingers, Parcells and her own life (Box 9 File 9). Following this note, portions of these histories have been compiled to provide the researcher with a historical sketch. The researcher can gain an understanding of the history of these families by reading these materials and can establish relationships by referring to the family tree or chart also included. In the scope and content note, significant portions of each series
and subseries are highlighted which may be of special interest to
researchers.
