Records Management Background

WSU Board of Trustees establishes a general policy and procedure on records
management (Policy No. 2501, The Wright Way, according to Ohio Revised
Code, Chapter 149, sections, 149.33B, 149.34, 149.35).

WSU Board of Trustees Resolution 75-3, dated September 24, 1974, officially
establishes the WSU Records Management Program under the direction of the
university archivist. The General Policy and Procedure on Records Management
states:

"The university archivist or his/her staff shall visit offices, survey
records, and recommend transferring them to the University Archives or
Health Sciences Library Archives, or retaining them for specific periods
of time, or destroying them."

WSU follows the records retention guidelines outlined in the "Records
Retention for Public Colleges and Universities in Ohio: A Manual", 1992
(developed by the Inter-University Council of Ohio, the Ohio Technical
and Community College Association, and the Information Requirements Clearinghouse).
