First Flight

Photograph of the first controlled and powered flight in a heavier-than-air machine, taken on December 17, 1903 in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina. Orville manned the craft while Wilbur ran along next to it. The first flight lasted twelve seconds and covered a distance of 120 feet.
