From October 16 to October 26, Orville made 90 glides and on October 24 established a new world soaring record of 9 minutes, 45 seconds in a 50 mph wind. The record stood for 10 years. Wright Brothers 1903 "Kitty Hawk" Aeroplane Blueprints In 1950 a complete set of drawings were made of the Wright 1903 Flyer ("Kitty Hawk") for the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum. The drawings, completed February 21, 1950, were made by L. P. Christman of Educational and Musical Arts, Inc., Dayton, Ohio. The drawings include 10 major sections containing a total of 45 drawings. The major sections include: Full Assembly (2 drawings); Wing Surfaces (10 drawings); Engine (11 drawings); Landing Skid (3 drawings); Front Rudder and Outrigger (7 drawings); Rear Rudder and Outrigger (3 drawings); Propellers and Chains (5 drawings); Wing Warping and Rudder Control (3 drawings); Flying Instruments (1 drawing); and Starting Track (1 drawing). The drawings have been scanned and are available as a PDF on CD. |

Wright Brothers 1903 Engine Blueprints As noted in Charles E. Taylor: 1868-1956, The Wright Brothers Mechanician by Howard R. DuFour and Peter J. Unitt, a complete set of drawings of the Wright 1903 Engine are available for purchase. The drawings are part of a larger set of drawings made of the Wright 1903 Flyer for the Smithsonian Institution's National Air and Space Museum in 1950. The eleven drawings making up the engine drawing set have been scanned and are available as a PDF on CD. |
