How Do You Use Your Library? We Want to Know!

Wright State students recently received an email with a link to our Building Use Survey. Find out how you can help us improve library spaces:

With the beginning of fall semester the pace at the library picks up. We’re excited to see the building fill up again and watch as people find their favorite places to study, meet with others, and get help on projects. Last spring, the University Libraries started a large, long-term study to better understand how the building is used. In this initial phase, we learned a lot — from what technology is used and where, to what size groups people work in, to what the preferred seating areas are, down to the most popular seat in the library.

You might have noticed some changes taking place in the library this summer as a result of our work in the spring: you told us loud and clear about what type of chairs you prefer and we got more of those; you told us that wireless printing is important, so we made the directions clearer and more accessible; you told us that whiteboards are important for working in groups, and we’ve painted walls in dry erase paint.

The information we gained from the spring study focused on how the building is currently used. Moving forward, we want to understand what the needs of all users – students, faculty, and staff – are. The University Libraries’ strategic plan calls for us to accommodate “the evolving needs of students, faculty, and staff, improving the visibility and accessibility of library resources.” In order to understand what those evolving needs are and how we can improve visibility and accessibility, we are conducting a campus-wide survey. We want your input.

This survey will be available to take from August 31 – September 11. It will take about 10 minutes to complete. When you complete the survey, you’ll be entered in a drawing to win a prize. The first round of winners will be selected from those who have completed the survey by the end of the day Friday, September 4; the rest of the winners will be selected from those who have completed the survey by the time it closes at the end of the day Friday, September 11, so the sooner you complete the survey, the better your chances are to win a prize.
