The Friends of the Libraries Board of Directors recently appointed two new Board members:
- Elizabeth (Liz) A. Ball, Alumni Association Board of Directors Representative
- Richard Hairston, Member-at-Large
- Christian Sanders, Student Representative, second term
Elizabeth A. Ball is at times known as a “Drill Leader” for her disciplined coaching style that brings out the best in people. A cheerleader at heart, Elizabeth serves as a Personal Style Expert, outside of her day job. She has been employed with Omega Community Development Corporation, Central State University, Wright State University, Comair, Community Mental Health & Substance Abuse Services of St. Joseph County and Glen Oaks Community College, in the past. She has hosted her own radio show, on 1210AM WDAO, Community Affairs, by Danielle Blake.
Elizabeth serves as a volunteer in numerous capacities. She is a Reading Buddy at Fairview Elementary school. She visits the sick and shut-in as part of her duties as an Associate Minister at her church. She serves as Chaplain for the Dayton Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She also volunteers with Dayton Regional Transit Authority, (RTA) Customer Advocacy Group and the Dayton Section of the National Council of Negro Women, (NCNW).
Elizabeth has her Bachelor of Science Degree in Organizational Leadership and her Master of Education, both from Wright State University.
Elizabeth is gratefully married with four children and five grandsons and one granddaughter.
Richard Hairston is a local communications professional who serves as the Strategic Initiatives and Communications Program Coordinator at Montgomery County Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health Services (ADAMHS). In this role, he is responsible for monitoring and implementing new marketing, communications, and partnerships surrounding mental and behavioral health at the local and state level.
Richard graduated from Wright State University in 2019 with a Bachelor of Arts in Mass Communication and Media Studies. During his time at Wright State, he served as a President’s Ambassador, New Student Orientation Mentor, Student Technology Mentor, and Friends of Libraries Board of Directors Student Representative. In addition to his student leadership activities throughout his educational journey, Richard maintained vital communications positions with Macy’s, the Dayton City Paper, and the Dayton Metro Library.
The Board would also like to recognize our Student Representative, Christian Sanders. Christian is a third-year Integrated Language Arts major at Wright State University and hopes to become a high school teacher in the Dayton area after he graduates in 2023. He is a member of the French club and volunteers at National Conference for Community Justice (NCCJ) of Greater Dayton. In his free time, he likes to hike, listen to music, and read. He also enjoys playing video games, tennis and the clarinet. This is Christian’s second term on the Friends of the Libraries Board of Directors.
