What should you expect when using the library during the elevator replacement?

Expect longer wait times for the elevator.  You will have to wait longer for an elevator.  This will be heightened May 6th – May 17th during our furniture installation project.  For more information on this, see our blog post in the Dunbar Wire.

Expect to be rerouted to other elevators.  The elevator running from the 1st to the basement floors will be closed for about 5 weeks in September and October.  During this time, alternative elevators must be used.  Information about alternative methods of ingress/egress will be announced in August.

Expect the same helpful and friendly staff.  Our staff will be here providing our full array of services throughout the improvement process.  If you would prefer to get assistance remotely, please use our Ask A Librarian service.

Dunbar Library Furniture Installation Project

Library atrium “before” picture. “After” picture coming soon!

The Dunbar Library will soon begin Phase 2 of our state capital improvement project – furniture! Furniture will be removed from the Dunbar Library from Friday afternoon, May 3rd through Saturday, May 4th. New furniture will arrive beginning Monday, May 6th and take approximately 2 – 3 weeks to install.

What should you expect when using the library during the installation?

Expect some areas to be closed.  During installation, sections or entire floors of the library will close intermittently.  Signs in the lobby will indicate which areas are open and closed each day.  Guaranteed seating in the library will be available on the first floor, 2nd floor public computers, STAC, and media room, and private study rooms.  The Special Collections and Archives will also be open.

Expect noise.  Installation will involve unpacking, drilling and hammering and library users should expect noise throughout the process.  Our group and private study rooms, which may limit some of the noise, will remain available for WSU students, faculty, and staff to book for two-hour time blocks. Feel free to book those in advance. Earplugs are also available at the circulation desk.

Expect elevator delays.  Coinciding with our furniture installation is Phase 3 of our capital improvements – elevator replacement.  Two of our three elevators running from the 1st – 4th floors will shut down on May 6th.  We will have one operating elevator that will be used heavily by our furniture installers.  For more information on our elevator replacement project, see our Dunbar Wire blog post.

Expect the same helpful and friendly staff.  Our staff will be here providing our full array of services throughout the improvement process.  If you would prefer to get assistance remotely, please use our Ask A Librarian service.
