The last month has been very busy with the DDN collection. Our Public History graduate student, Misti Spillman, has been hard at work integrating the Personality Collection files. Thanks to her help, we have 300 record storage boxes of names finalized. We are currently working on the “K” names and expect to be on “L” by the end of this month. Thankfully, no new preservation concerns have been found; this makes the task at hand much easier.
In other news, we had a reception earlier this month for the library staff at the DDN archives. Several dozen of our friends from the library came for a tour of the new facilities in the basement of the Med Sci building. We had light refreshments and displayed some of the treasures from the collection. Pictures of the event are posted below.
Finally, I would like to thank the Public History students who utilized the collection for their final papers in the Intro to Public History class. Fifteen students crafted papers using the primary sources found in the collection. The topics ranged from protests to the blizzard of 78’. In the coming months we may display a few of the papers on the blog. So stay tuned!
