Neil Armstrong and Apollo 11

On July 20, 1969 the Apollo 11 spaceflight was successful in landing humans on the moon. As Apollo 11 mission commander and the first person to step on the moon, Neil Armstrong is a held as a national hero. Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta and although his family around quite a bit, people in the Miami Valley consider him as a local.  Bridging national and international news with local news is what makes a newspaper collection like the DDN so interesting. The researcher can see how a world event relates to daily lives in the Miami Valley as well as see how people and events from the area had an impact nationally.
