On July 20, 1969 the Apollo 11 spaceflight was successful in landing humans on the moon. As Apollo 11 mission commander and the first person to step on the moon, Neil Armstrong is a held as a national hero. Armstrong was born in Wapakoneta and although his family around quite a bit, people in the Miami Valley consider him as a local. Bridging national and international news with local news is what makes a newspaper collection like the DDN so interesting.
