Original caption (Oct. 1960): “From Steps fo the Courthouse. Kennedy faces crowd at Third and Main during his short campaign speech from the courthouse steps on a hot Monday, Oct. 17, 1960. An estimated 20,000 persons jammed the square. The sesnator arrived 39 minutes late in a motor cavalcade from Middletown. Picture shows unruly bit of hair at the back of Kennedy’s head and a typical Kennedy gesture, stabbing a finger at his listeners.”
