July 10, 2017: Ray Snedegar to Present “Operation Babylift”

The next meeting of the Huffman Prairie Aviation Historical Society will take place on Monday, July 10, at 7:00pm. All are welcome!

The program will be held at the East Interpretive Center, Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, 2380 Memorial Road (intersection of State Route 444 and Kauffman Road), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.

Next Monday night retired U.S. Air Force Chief Master Sergeant Ray Snedegar will share his experiences as senior loadmaster on the first flight of Operation Babylift on April 4, 1975.

Operation Babylift was a plan to evacuate thousands of displaced Vietnamese children, many of them infants, to the United States in the closing days of the Vietnam War. The C-5A, with Ray and 309 others onboard, crashed shortly after take-off just outside of Saigon. Ray, a Centerville resident and native of Mason County, Kentucky, served for 31 years in the U.S. Air Force.
