Not only do our collections span the globe, but so do the researchers that contact Special Collections & Archives for assistance. Each month we receive dozens and dozens of email and telephone requests from researchers all over the United States and throughout the world. The requests cover everything from the Wright Brothers to family history, aviation to local history, and even kitchen appliances (we are home to the Frigidaire Historical Collection).
So far this summer we have answered international requests from Canada, Finland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom (3 separate requests from London alone). The researchers were seeking material on topics including aviation history, World War II photos, Frigidaire’s “Kitchens of Tomorrow,” and, of course, the Wright Brothers.
In addition, we have fielded calls and emails from 8 states (California, Georgia, New Hampshire, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Washington) and Washington, D.C., so far this month. Come on North Dakota and Hawaii, we’d like to hear from you!
It might be the summertime, but we are busy here at SC&A answering requests near and far.
