The next meeting of the Huffman Prairie Aviation Historical Society is set for Monday evening, July 1, at 7pm. The event is free and everyone is welcome!
This month Al Schutte will present “The 58th Bomb Wing: B-29 Superfortress Pioneers.”
Al is the historian of the 58th Bomb Wing and will share stories, photos and documents detailing the history of the Wing. The 58th was the first Wing to take B-29s into combat. The time period will run from the formation of the Wing in May 1943 through the final missions of the war. The geography will include the 58th’s time in both the CBI (China-Burma-India) theater and on Tinian Island in the Marianas. Many of the materials used in this presentation originated with the men of the 58th, largely through their donations of archival materials to the New England Air Museum in Windsor Locks, CT. Al volunteers at the Museum and has free access to all their archival materials.
The program will be held at the Huffman Prairie Flying Field Interpretive Center, Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, 2380 Memorial Road (intersection of State Route 444 and Kauffman Road), Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
