Dayton Electric Railway Historical Collection

An eclectic collection of materials related to Dayton's electric railway transit system in the early 20th century. Included are schedules, transit maps, franchise documents, scattered financial records, and advertisements. Of particular interest is a 1930 study of Dayton's interurban transit system, and papers relating to a labor dispute in 1918.

Richard Fullerton Photographic Collection
ca. 1870-1989 (Bulk 1860-1930), 7.0 lin. ft.

This collection consists of over 2,000 photographs and negatives collected, and in some cases taken by Richard Fullerton, who spent his career in the photography laboratory at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The portrait photography in the collection represents predominant photographic processes, portraiture styles, and formats from the second half of the 19th century. The collection contains tintypes, cartes-de-visites, cabinet cards, albumen prints, platinum prints, matte collodion prints, silver gelatin prints, and negatives. Also included is a visual history of Dayton, Ohio with photographs of Dayton railroads and interurban, the local fire departments, Montgomery County Courthouse, Dayton photographers and their studios, Wright Brothers buildings and events, the 1913 flood, street scenes, and aerial photographs. The collection also includes Fullertonís subject files on Dayton history topics, and negatives. Fullertonís family genealogy photographs are included.

Leonard Hill Local History Collection
1754-1971 (bulk 1838-1904), 0.25 lin. ft.

The local history collection of Leonard Hill includes a variety of 19th century events and topics related to Piqua area history. Included are an early 19th century farmer's diary by John B. Miller, a Miami and Erie Canal log book by foreman James R. Spencer, and an 1862 Union soldierís diary recounting two months following the battle at Richmond, Kentucky in which he had been captured, paroled and returned to Union custody, north of Columbus, Ohio. In addition, various clippings and magazine articles pertaining to local history and genealogy are included.

Middletown Hydraulic Canal Company Records
1818-1973 (bulk 1851-1969), 6 lin. ft.

Contains minutes of the Board of Trustees, articles of incorporation, business correspondence, and financial records including yearly tax returns for 1910-1967, and an itemized list of the cost of construction of the hydraulic during the years 1852-1854. Also included are legal files containing land agreements, leases, indentures, and a box of maps and drawings of the hydraulic at different locations.
