Guess Who (Round 4)

July 27, 2011

Congratulations to Leah Miller who correctly guessed that the Dayton celebrity was Martin Sheen.

In keeping with our aviation theme, let’s move on to round 4.

Our next mystery person  graduated from Purdue University in 1955 with a bachelor of science in aeronautical engineering. He was a Naval aviator from 1949-1952 and flew 78 combat missions in Korea. The research pilot worked for NASA’s Lewis Flight Propulsion Laboratory and the NASA High Speed Flight Station. He participated in flight tests on dozens of aircraft, including the F-101, X-1, and X-15. He was also the commander of the Apollo 11 Flight.

But before he reached for the stars, he called Auglaize County his home. Who is he?
